Ahli United Bank
Ahli United Bank acquired a 40% stake in Al-Ahli Bank of Qatar. The acquisition was through 100% participation in capital increase in a transaction worth US$ 201 million. As a result, Ahli Bank’s equity rose from US$85 million to US $239 million, making it one of the largest banks in terms of capitalization and positioning it to benefit from the growth potential in Qatar. In addition to the purchase, AUB also signed a ten-year management agreement to oversee the running of the bank and ensure a focused implementation of a growth strategy. As part of the agreement Al-Ahli Bank of Qatar QSC was renamed Ahli Bank QSC.
Al-Ahli Bank of Qatar was established in 1983. The Bank’s head office commenced operations in August 1984 in the Al Mergab area until it was relocated to the present premises on Salwa Road in September1987. Following this, the Al Mergab office started operating as a second branch. The Old Airport Road branch was inaugurated in September 1989 followed by the Marine Base branch in May 1997. Subsequently, three other branches were opened – Al Mansoura and Al Wakrah in June 1999 and Al Markhiyah in August 1999. The Industrial Area branch commenced operations in February 2001. Currently the Bank comprises thirteen branches in addition to the Head Office. In April 2001 the bank inaugurated its brokerage office in Doha Securities Market.
